Black September War (Jordan vs. Palestinians) - September, 1970 - tens of thousands killed
Gulf War/Operation Desert Storm, 1991 - 10,000-20,000 low estimate, 100,000 high estimate
Iraq War - 2003-? - 10,000+ casualties, Sunni on Shiite violence approaching 100 dead per day at peak.
Darfur - 160,000-400,000+ dead
When one reviews the statistics of recent Middle East/African conflicts, one can wonder why the Israeli-Arab conflict registers so highly on the megaphone of the world's media. The fighting between Israel and the Palestinians, as well as Israel and its current conflict with the Hezbollah in Lebanon, is to a degree one of the smallest scale conflicts in the region - yet it gathers 100x more media attention then something like the violence in Darfur.
Why?
